CD: Elegies for Andrew
A poetic collaboration in memory of Andrew Waterhouse
Rosary, by Ian Duhig
For Andrew Waterhouse, by WN Herbert
Trying to Explain a Telescope, by Linda France
Song for the Crossing, by Sean O'Brien
Music composed by Keith Morris
Poets Ian Duhig, Linda France, WN Herbert and Sean O'Brien worked with composer Keith Morris to create new work in memory of poet Andrew Waterhouse.
Andrew (1958-2001) was the recipient of a Northern Writers' Award in 2000. His first collection of poetry, In, received the Forward First Collection Award in 2000. His final work, 2nd, was published posthumously by Rialto. After Andrew's death, many writers from the region participated in events to celebrate his life and work. The Elegies for Andrew project grew out of this activity. New Writing North continues to keep Andrew's memory alive in the form of the annual Waterhouse Award, which is given to a poet whose work reflects the spirit of Andrew's life and work.
Elegies for Andrew was commissioned by New Writing North and premiered at a live event as part of the Magnetic North programme in November 2003 in Newcastle upon Tyne.
This CD is dedicated to the memory of Keith Morris.
