Reading development
New Writing North runs a number of projects that promote reading and support the development of people’s reading habits each year. We work both independently and as part of partnerships with other organisations to promote reading.
If you are a reader check out the Readers section of our website to find out how you can engage.
Read Regional is an annual campaign to promote North East authors to readers across the region that runs from spring until autumn each year. The project is run in conjunction with library authorities that purchase the books that are involved in the promotion. The events are supported financially by local authorities and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The project has its own website where you can read more about the activities. The Read Regional project is successful at growing new readers for books and in engaging people with literary activity for the first time. You can also keep in touch via http://twitter.com/ReadRegional and on www.readregional.com.
In 2009, in partnership with Women into the Network, a regional organisation that helps women entrepreneurs, New Writing North created a series of book groups for women who ran their own businesses. The groups aimed to provide creative networking opportunities in a new way. The project was supported by the Learning Transformation Fund.
