If you are a writer or are interested in literature events and activities and live in the north east of England then you've found a great regional resource.

Reading development

New Writing North runs a number of projects that promote reading and support the development of people’s reading habits each year. We work both independently and as part of partnerships with other organisations to promote reading.

If you are a reader check out the Readers section of our website to find out how you can engage.

Read Regional is an annual campaign to promote North East authors to readers across the region that runs from spring until autumn each year. For more information, see the Read Regional section on this website or go to www.readregional.com.

In 2009, in partnership with Women into the Network, a regional organisation that helps women entrepreneurs, New Writing North created a series of book groups for women who ran their own businesses. The groups aimed to provide creative networking opportunities in a new way. The project was supported by the Learning Transformation Fund.

Throughout 2012, Caroline Beck was reader in residence at the Cyreneans Recovery Centre, reading aloud with a group of people who are recovering from alcohol and drug addictions. The group met fortnightly with Caroline reading a range of poetry, short stories and novels. The project was funded for a year by Awards for All, and now that the funded programme has come to an end, the group still continues to meet, and is led by one of the participants in the project.
