Publishing

New Writing North occasionally publishes books, usually to accompany projects that we are producing. We have published plays, collections of short stories, essays and books that celebrate projects that we have produced. You can browse our books here.

We also partner organisations that want to produce books for special events and can undertake consultancy projects on this basis. In 2011, we worked with the Tyneside Cinema to produce Come and See, a book of the cinema’s history written by Michael Chaplin. In 2009 we worked with Northern Stage and Threshold Theatre to publish Looking for Githa, the first biography of Githa Sowerby to accompany the Githa Sowerby festival that they produced.

New Writing North director Claire Malcolm also works as a publishing consultant for Mslexia, the magazine for women who write. Mslexia is read by subscribers across the world and is available online and in print.
