If you are a writer or are interested in literature events and activities and live in the north east of England then you've found a great regional resource.

Publishing

New Writing North occasionally publishes books, usually to accompany projects that we are producing. We have published plays, collections of short stories, essays and books that celebrate projects that we have produced. You can browse our books here.

We also partner organisations that want to produce books for special events and can undertake consultancy projects on this basis. In 2011, we worked with the Tyneside Cinema to produce Come and See, a book of the cinema’s history written by Michael Chaplin. In 2009 we worked with Northern Stage and Threshold Theatre to publish Looking for Githa, the first biography of Githa Sowerby to accompany the Githa Sowerby festival that they produced.

Most recently, we published Tyne View, Port of Tyne writer in residence Michael Chaplin's account of a journey along the tidal Tyne from South Shields to Tynemouth via Wylam, in the company of artist Birtley Aris, photographer Charles Bell and poet Christy Ducker. Their walk took them through changing communities, vital industry and through urban, rural, industrial and post-industrial landscapes.
