News from New Writing North: 23 October 2009

New Writing North will be spending the next ten days or so at the Durham Book Festival, which we’ve programmed and are helping Durham City Arts to run. It starts tonight, Friday 23 October, and runs until 1 November. We’ve programmed events for every type of reader of every age and in locations in and around Durham city. Publicity and Marketing Assistant for Tindal Street Press, Birmingham

Tindal Street are looking for an organised graduate with promotional flair and a passion for reading, who must be enthusiastic about marketing literary fiction. Previous PR, marketing or publishing experience desirable. The successful candidate will focus on marketing and publicity work and gain a broad understanding of the publishing industry. Edinburgh Book Festival announces new director

Nick Barley, former director of the Lighthouse design centre in Glasgow, which went into liquidation in August, has been announced as successor to Catherine Lockerbie as director of Edinburgh Book Festival. Barley started the job last week, and has promised “a strongly thematic approach that will lend both a greater cohesiveness and an excitement to the programme” for the 2010 festival.



New publishing home for David Almond

After a "hot auction" culminating in a reported six-figure deal, North East author David Almond has moved from Hodder to Puffin and Viking with The True Tale of the Monster Billy Dean (September 2011) and a second novel.



Crick Crack Club performance storytelling at Northern Stage
Performance storytelling has come to Northern Stage this week, with the arrival of the Crick Crack Club. Over three nights from 22-24 October, these spoken word performances will weave their way through time with the legend of Frankenstein, tales of goddesses Isis and Hecate, and stories of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
