After a whirlwind of launch events in libraries from Haltwhistle to Bedlington to Wooler last week, we’re delighted that Harry Pearson’s new book, Housekeepers, Shortlegs and Flemish String
, is now available in our shop
. Together with photographer Julian Germain, Harry visited three village sports clubs in the east, west and north of Northumberland and this beautiful book is a result of their wanderings. Although the book was commissioned in response to the Olympic year, the sports clubs featured here are both literally and spiritually a long way from the lycra-clad festival of excellence that took place in east London, yet their story is just as uplifting in its own modest way.
