Blue Boy tour opens at Northern Stage
Don’t miss Margaret Wilkinson’s new play Blue Boy, which opened at Northern Stage last Wednesday. Influenced by recent high profile cases following the deaths of children in care, Blue Boy is a powerful, unsettling portrait of a haunted social worker. The play draws on myth and fairytale to look at society’s need to assign blame when something goes tragically wrong.
Set in a senior social worker’s office late at night, an apparently lost and frightened boy arrives and it’s not clear whether his business is refuge or revenge. As the seemingly ordinary world becomes distorted, even supernatural, the real reason these two characters are trapped in each other’s worlds begins to emerge.
