Turner served for seven years in the US army and was an infantry team leader for a year in Iraq. Crusaders author Richard T Kelly and his editor at Faber and Faber, Lee Brackstone, discuss how the book depicts the North East and what appears to be a renaissance in fiction publishing from the north of England. The event, which took place at Newcastle's Live Theatre on 3 March 2008, included extracts from the book which were specially adapted by Richard and performed by actors.

writers in residence at The Alnwick Garden over the winter of 2006/07.
The writers worked with producer Caroline Beck to create an audio work
which reflects their experiences of the garden.
