Write in the City
New Writing North is hosted as part of Northumbria University’s Write in the City project at the Holy Jesus Hospital in Newcastle.
The Holy Jesus Hospital is in the care of the National Trust. The site of the building dates back 700 years and at previous points in history there has been an Augustinian Friary (13th Century), a hospital for the sick and the needy, an almshouse for retired freemen and a soup kitchen on the site. The Write in the City project is operated by Northumbria University’s School of Arts and Social Sciences and the project is host to New Writing North and Mslexia magazine. The project has created a unique creative industries hub for writing and publishing in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne.
